STEP PROGRAM

Step is a fun and culturally safe program that blends hip hop dance, cultural dance, and wellbeing activities. The program empowers young people to learn about healthy forms of self-expression, build confidence, and strengthen connections to culture, identity, and safe relationships.

Activities Include:

 

  • Hip hop dance workshops (fun, energetic, inclusive).
     
  • Cultural dance and yarning circles (grounding in identity and community).
     
  • Creative activities and reflection tools (goal setting).
     
  • Delivered by trained facilitators who are culturally safe, trauma-informed, and youth-focused.


Who can participate:


  • Students in Years 8-12
     
  • Select Schools across Moreton Bay, Brisbane, and surrounding regions.
     
  • Tailored for all students, with specific focus on supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

Facts and Questions

 Q: How long does the program run?
A: Programs are flexible but usually run for 6 weeks, every Friday.


Q: Is the program only for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students?
A: No, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young person can bring friend/s, even if they are non-identified. We want to focus on centring cultural safety.


Q: Do students need prior dance experience?
A: Not at all! The program is for beginners and experienced dancers alike, it’s all about expression and fun.


Q: Is parental consent required?
A: Yes, Amplimity provides consent forms for schools to share with parents for signing.
