Strong Spirit Program

WHY?

Amplimity’s Strong Spirit Program was created to provide culturally safe healing and early intervention for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families, and communities impacted by domestic and family violence, trauma, and disconnection.

Strong Spirit is built on the belief that healing happens best when culture leads, families are supported together, and every person is given the opportunity to restore safety, dignity, identity, and strong relationships. The program supports women and children in safety and recovery, while also walking alongside men on culturally grounded healing and change pathways to strengthen responsibility, fathering, and respectful relationships.

Strong Spirit recognises that when individuals heal, families strengthen, and when families strengthen, communities grow safer and stronger. Guided by Elders, cultural authority, and community leadership, Strong Spirit creates spaces for reflection, accountability, reconnection, and long-term healing.

This is our community’s way. A place to heal, to reconnect, and to build strong spirits for this generation and the next.

How It Works

Strong Spirit Healing Journey

Restoring Cultural Accountability (Early Intervention & Engagement)
We begin by listening deeply to individuals and families, hearing their stories, experiences, and connections to kin and community. This phase centre's cultural identity, self-reflection, safety, and understanding what accountability, healing, and responsibility mean within a cultural context.

↓

Healing Journeys (Change From Within)
Through culturally grounded, trauma-informed practice and the Safe & Together model, participants are supported to understand the impacts of violence and trauma, strengthen emotional regulation, identify core values, and build respectful and safe relationships. Healing pathways are tailored for men, women, young people, and families, recognising each person’s unique journey.

↓

Cultural Healing & Reconnection
Healing activities are guided by culture, Elders, and connection to Country. Through yarning, storytelling, cultural practices, and on Country experiences, individuals are supported to restore identity, strengthen spirit, and reconnect with self, family, and community.

↓

Reconnection, Empowerment & Family Strengthening
We support individuals and families to rebuild strong roles within their families and communities through case management, advocacy, parenting and life skills support, secondary interventions, and community connection. This phase focuses on strengthening safety, responsibility, and long-term wellbeing.

↓

Aftercare & Ongoing Community Connection
Healing does not end at program completion. Ongoing yarning circles, groups, follow-ups, and referred community support ensure individuals and families remain connected, supported, and accountable as they continue their healing journey.

Safety, Partnerships and Cultural Integrity

Partnering with Government and Non-Government

We work with Cultural Liaison Officers, Local Justice Groups, Other Statutory Bodies, and Queensland Police Service (QPS) to ensure safety, risk management, and ongoing collaboration.

 ↓
 Confidentiality First

We maintain strict privacy protocols to protect participants, partners, and the wider community.

 ↓

Clear Boundaries

Non-engagement or harmful behaviours result in clear exit pathways to prioritise the safety of others.
